Students are not required to participate in performances/group shows with MacKinnon Dance Academy.  Every student is encouraged to participate with Kealoha & Co twice a year (July Recital & December Holiday Show) with MacKinnon Dance Academy as part of their dance programs. 

On occasion, ALL students are invited to participate in performances.

Each year, Kealoha & Co students participate in MacKinnon Dance Academy’s annual Holiday Show which is held in December of each year.  This is a one day event with two shows being held.  Students wishing to participate will learn a specific dance for this show.  Additionally, special costumes will be ordered by students in the months leading up to the holiday show.  Tickets for this show will be available for purchase at MacKinnon Dance Academy.  This is a one day event with two performances.

Annual MacKinnon Dance Recital (July)

Each year, Kealoha & Co students participate in MacKinnon Dance Academy’s annual Recital which is held in July of each year.  This is a four day (Mon-Tues full dress rehearsal;  Wed-Thurs show time!).  Students wishing to participate will learn a specific dance for this show.  Additionally, special costumes will be ordered by students in the months leading up to the recital.  Tickets for this show will be available for purchase at MacKinnon Dance Academy.

Performances in General

Kealoha & Co “Expressions of Polynesia performs a number of private and public shows throughout the year.  If you are in Class 1 or Class 2 you are NOT obligated to perform in any of these shows.  It is your choice if you wish to perform as in generally by invitation only from Auntie Josie. If you would like to perform, please speak with Auntie Josie.

If you are in Class 4 or Class 5 or participate in the “Performance Group”, (which means you must also be enrolled in Class 2) you are expected to perform as long as you are able to AND on a regular basis.  You will be required to purchase implements and costumes that are used in these classes and in performances.

Talent Shows & Other Outside Performances

Many local school offer talent shows during the course of the school year. 

REMEMBER – any student/dancer wanting to perform any of the dances learned in class for a talent show or other outside performance, must first get permission from Auntie Josie to do so.   

Auntie Josie must first see you perform the dance alone to make sure that you understand everything about the dance you want to show and perform.  You may not teach this dance to others because you are still learning.

Please understand that your performances are a reflection upon all of us and we want to ensure that you are fully prepared for any type of performance and that you know and fully understand the dance(s) you are wanting to perform.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
